As someone who has been periodically negotiating the meaning of home and her sense of belonging, I have always found conversations with fellow migrants insightful and inspiring.

From the casual chat during a shared meal, to more intense moments triggered by homesickness or searching for a new sense of purpose, human connection and people's past experiences are to me a precious source of knowledge and perspective.

I have been living in Pamplona for just over a year now, and after having taken the time to breathe it in on my own, I feel that I am ready to see it through the eyes of others. Whether they are long term migrants or newly arrived, or even Pamplonese who have lived abroad and have now repatriated, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of asking questions related to our shifting identity as we move around the world.

When you leave, will anywhere else ever feel like home again?

One thing that helps me put fresh roots down (albeit short, I have to admit), is becoming involved in meaningful interactions with my surroundings: working, volunteering and socializing are all valid means to this end.

I envision this series of stories to be a place of support and validation, a platform to feel heard and represented, a space that may challenge our own biases and stereotypes. And if you are someone who has never been in the position of having to reinvent yourself somewhere else, these stories are for you too… It’s the perfect opportunity to learn about someone’s life and broaden your perspective from the comfort of your home.

We will be sharing one story a month on this page, and as always we are looking forward to hearing your thoughts, comments and ideas.
